Toronto Burlesque Photographer covering the 2013 New York Burlesque Festival Saturday Spectacular show.
Saturday night in New York and I am back on 42nd Street at BB King’s for the Saturday Night Spectacular. I always get a peculiar little thrill stepping out from the subway at 42nd St/Times Square, it’s one of those “I can’t quite believe I’m here” moments that I get.
I have to say that there is something special about the NYBF and the camaraderie amongst the photographer and videographers. This is only my second year shooting the NYBF and I am a ring in – I fly in from Toronto, but I am a kiwi that built my burlesque photography in Melbourne. A lot of the photographers at NYBF have been shooting for twice as long (or longer) than I have, and yet they are friendly, welcoming and incredibly generous. Saturday demonstrates this again for me, there is sharing of equipment between the photographers and videographers, minding of gear and friendly banter. I love it.
