This year for my birthday portraits, I decided to buck my regular trend and actually wear colour for once! I still had to revert to wearing some black for comforts sake.
So if you are new to my blog, I take birthday self portraits every year. If you want to check out my efforts from previous years, then here is the post from 2015 (which also included my 2013 and 2014 portraits), and then the post from 2016 which was a little out of my comfort zone.
This year was a gloomy day, so I pulled the strobes out to have a bit of a play. I would love to have a bit more ceiling height to really be able to play with overhead and front lighting, but still more time to work on that.
The set up in the red dress was firing the strobe behind the backdrop through diffusion, but I feel like there is a bit too much spread of light with it bouncing off a lower white ceiling. Next time I may try running the backdrop higher, and popping some negative fill in to add a bit more contrast at the top of the image.
Here are the images from the day before my birthday, including a cameo from Perrin who is such a diva and couldn’t stand not being involved.
