I share my birthday portraits 2017 - aged 38

This year for my birthday portraits, I decided to buck my regular trend and actually wear colour for once!

This year was a gloomy day, so I pulled the strobes out to have a bit of a play. I would love to have a bit more ceiling height to really be able to play with overhead and front lighting, but still more time to work on that.

As usual, my resting bitch face is on point.  In real life I do actually smile quite a bit.

The set up in the red dress, I was firing the strobe behind the backdrop through diffusion. But I feel like there is a bit too much spread of light with it bouncing off a lower white ceiling.
Next time I may try running the backdrop higher.  And also pop in some negative fill in to add a bit more contrast at the top of the image.

I still had to revert to wearing some black for comforts sake.

So if you are new to my blog, I take birthday self portraits every year. If you want to check out my efforts from previous years;

Here is a cameo from Perrin who is such a diva, and couldn’t stand not being involved. Totally open to shooting more contemporary portraits of people with their pets, by the way 😉
