In Studio - 2021
Each year just before my birthday I get into the studio for updated portrait. They are always self portraits and each year I try to do something different.
The images I shot for 2021 were not my favourite and were a reflection of my declining mental health at the time.
Later in the year, I felt ready and much more inspired to head back into the studio and play with some new portrait images and to refine some lighting set ups.
These were based on images of Charlotte Gainsbourg in a campaign for Zara.
I loved the idea of making the emphasis on portraits with a more androgynous vibe, dynamic posing and movement, with little or no make up and hair styling.
I chose to shoot these on a day where I had just washed my hair, since my natural curl can get a little wild.
To emphasise movement, I added a fan to lift my hair and give the jacket a bit more life.
The resulting images definitely felt more like me and that I actually felt happy to share. They are also more indicative of the direction I would like to take my portrait services in, and will be offering to clients moving forward.
